New Everton
boss Roberto Maretinez has heaped praises on self-exiled Super Eagles
striker Victor Anichebe and his Toffees teammates for the
professionalism they showed during the club pre-season friendly with
Accrington Stanley.
The Blues ran out comfortable winners in the pre-season meeting at the Store First Stadium, with goals from Darron Gibson, Victor Anichebe, Kevin Mirallas and Leon Osman adding to a bright team performance.
The scoreline gave Martinez his first win as Everton manager, but he insisted at the final whistle, the result was not the priority.
“It wasn’t about winning or losing,” he told evertontv.
“It was about having a good attitude and approach. We used the game for a good physical exercise.
“The professionalism was outstanding. It was really good to see the fans enjoying what turned out to be a really good workout.”
