I love women a lot... -GT

In this interview with IBUKUN AKINYEMI, GT The Guitarman talks about his type of music and plans for the future.
What have you been up to recently?
Have been doing quite a number of things, preparing for my new album called ‘Baked’, which means that I went through fire and it has really baked me, I have been in the studio, majorly producing for people and writing more songs. I was also nominated for an award last year in France where I represented Nigeria as the fist Nigerian to be nominated, although I didn’t win but still I’m happy for the great opportunity.

How did the musical journey start for you?
The music journey started for me as a fan of music. My radio was my best friend, I remember back then my younger sister will bring songs for me we rehearsed together. In 2005, I sat in a valentine’s day show with nothing to perform for the show, it was there that I met talented people such as Dare Art Alade and that was when I released my first single, ‘dreamer’.

Which of your songs would you say brought you to limelight?
The song that brought me to limelight was ‘dreamer’; a whole lot of people loved it, thank God for the inspiration.

What was the inspiration behind it?
‘Dreamer’ was inspired by a personal experience. I was born in the United Kingdom (UK) and had always dreamt about going back there to start a new life, but when I got to the embassy, I was refused a visa, I was disappointed.

What would you have been if not an artiste?
My father had always wanted me to be an aeronautic engineer, but I eventually studied economics. I would have been an economist but I knew I could switch into any sector, so now  that I’m into music, I produce and write too.

What type of girl catches your attention?
My taste for women changed over the years. Before now I used to go for the shape, the beauty and the artificial things but now, I think I like an understanding, intelligent woman because I can’t really cope with a ‘dumb’ girl as I don’t think we can blend. We wouldn’t really understand ourselves if she is not smart or someone smarter than me and before a lady can do that, ‘she go try small’ and that is why she has to be bold to challenge me in many ways.

Tell us something no one knows about you
I can service my car, my generator and I do carpentry works too. I produce, I mix, master. I love women a lot but I can hear many people calling me gay may be they don’t know but I like women a lot. In fact, it scares me.

What differentiates you from other artistes?
My voice, guitar, lyrics and vocal. The music in me basically differentiates me, that is why if you hear a GT track, you would know it is GT, the music in it makes me stand out because I don’t see people do real music any more.

What is your normal day like?
It depends on what part of the month it is and what I am doing at that particular time. Sometimes, I wake up and end up in the studio, other times it could be meetings. Atimes, I could be stuck up in traffic but normally, I wake up, I pray, I brush my teeth and head to the studio.

How do you relax?
I sleep, I don’t watch movies. Even the TV in my room, I don’t think I have used it for a long time probably because I talk to my fans more, because that is how I relax.

Any album in the making?
Yes. I am working on the album called ‘baked’, I told you why I called it baked already because if you go through fire it is either it burns you into ashes or it bakes you and it is going to drop online soon.
What is the gadget you can do without?
I can’t do without my blackberry and my laptop because of its internet facility.

What is the most expensive thing in your wardrobe?
I don’t really buy expensive things. I am a simple person, moreover, I have a stylist that makes my stuff and it’s always affordable and it is good on me.

Tell us your educational background
I went to Community Primary School in Mile 2, Mayflower Secondary School at Ikene, Ogun State and  I studied Economics at the Lagos State University (LASU).
