Court Sends Foster Mother To Prison For Setting Girl Ablaze


A Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos State has ordered that Mrs. Nkese Iroakazi, the foster mother who last month allegedly set an 11-year old girl ablaze leading to her death be remanded at Kirikiri Prison till October.
The victim, Ita Bassey-Eno, was said to have died at the Gbadaga General Hospital a week after she was rushed to the facility.
 She allegedly poured kerosene on the decased and lit a match stick to kindle the fire that burnt the girl.
Iroakazi, a nurse, was detained at the Bode Thomas Police Station and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID until she was arraigned in court.
The accused was charged with the murder of Ita Bassey-Eno and refused bail by the court when she was arraigned.
The incident, the court heard, occurred on July 27, 2013 when residents of Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere heard the deceased screaming for help.
