Sports: Fashola charges private sector

Governor Babatunde Fashola
Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola says the enormous challenge faced by government in providing basic amenities for the citizens have prevented it from total funding of sports.
The governor stated this at the maiden town hall meeting on sports development organised by the Lagos State Sports Endowment Fund on Tuesday. The event was held as part of efforts to raise funds for sports development in the state.
The governor, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Sports, Wahid Oshodi, said, “The state government cannot fund sports alone because our budget will not allow us to.
“That is why LSSEF is a public-private initiative. We are all stakeholders in this endeavour and I would like to encourage every one of us to contribute more for sports in Lagos State. The responsibility of developing sports infrastructure does not lie with government alone.”
He added, “Building sports in our state will give the youths the opportunity to engage with inspiring adult figures in a safe environment. It will guide the youths in the best path for their futures.”
