Fire razes Coscharis Lagos warehouse

Fire razes Coscharis Lagos warehouse

Goods worth billions of naira were yesterday morning gutted by fire at the Lagos office and warehouse of automobile giant, Coscharis Nigeria Limited located at Kirikiri Industrial Estate, Apapa.

No life was lost, but it was learnt that investigators are currently battling to uncover the likely cause of the fire.

Sources said the fire started following an electrical spark which later gutted the whole warehouse.

The sources claimed that since the warehouse was undergoing renovations after the sachet water division was relocated to the Alakija area, the new electrical connection in the building might have malfunctioned.
It was learnt that the fire began at about 4:0am, but raged unnoticed till about an hour later when firefighters from the Lagos State Fire Service and the Nigerian Navy were contacted to combat the inferno.

Goods stocked in the warehouse, such as tyres, spare parts, gas cylinders, computers, fuel and agro products, grease oil, spray paints, inverter batteries, lubricants, grease and additives, exacerbate the intensity if the fire.

Fire fighters said absence of fire hydrant and sufficient water hindered them from effectively combating the inferno, which lasted for over six hours.

To prevent hoodlums from invading premises, armed police officers were deployed from Kirikiri Police Station to the company.

The Lagos State Fire Service Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Paschal Ologungboye, said they received a distress call at about 6am and operators from the Sari Iganmu, Ijora and Isolo fire stations were deployed to the scene of the fire incident.

He lamented that despite the number of fire trucks from different stations, the challenge was the lack of water within the premises.
